Mica Laminates

The term mica refers to a group of minerals with excellent fissility. The reason for this fissility is the layered silicate lattice. The term mica comes from the Latin word micare, which means „shine“ and is a reference to the shiny appearance of this mineral. VonRoll mines this material in its own mines and uses a special method to produce muscovite or phlogopite-based mica paper.

Applications

If we create layers of mica paper, press it using a silicone or epoxy resin and let it harden, we obtain firm material for temperatures up to 900 °C or flexible Miglasil for temperatures up to 1200 °C.

Main advantages

  • excellent electrical and thermal insulation
  • mechanical stability at high temperatures

It comes in sheets, tubes and as finished parts.
